Youth Chorus Holds Spring Concert, Auditions New Members

The Quincy Area Youth Chorus will take the stage for a free Spring Concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at Trinity United Church of Christ.

The QAYC provides an opportunity for musical expression and education in a joyful environment. These talented singers from Iowa, Missouri, and Illinois will perform a wide variety of music.

The Kinderchor includes singers in grades three through six and is conducted by Amy Fairchild and accompanied by Denise Pearcy. The Chamber and Concert Choirs, singers in grades seven through 12, are conducted by Paul Shelor and accompanied by Mary Shelor.

Free-will donations will be collected at the door and are greatly appreciated. There will be a reception at the church following the performance.

Auditions for the 2024-25 Youth Chorus will be held Saturday, May 18 beginning at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 333 S. 36th Street. Singers who will be in grades 3-12 in the fall are welcome to audition. Interested singers are encouraged to attend the April 7 concert.

Accepted singers will perform at their two concerts as well as join the Quincy Symphony Orchestra and Chorus for a spectacular Christmas performance in December.

Founded in 1995, QAYC is a performing and educational outreach program within the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association. QAYC supplements school and church choral training with focused preparation and performance of excellent chorus literature. Tuition is $60 per year and scholarships are available.

Auditioning children should prepare a song they enjoy singing.  Call the Quincy Symphony office at 217-222-2856 to sign up for an audition time. Additional information is available at www.qsoa.org.

The QAYC is supported by Encore Symphony Volunteer Council and grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the Tracy Family Foundation, the Michelmann Foundation, the J.W.
