Welcome to the QSOA’s 67th season connecting our regional musical heritage through performances of traditional repertoire as well as new compositions to capture your imagination. Creative Legacy evokes the spark of imagination that endures through time, spanning works from Beethoven to Bernstein to recent Mizzou grad Stephanie Berg. Our celebration of the QSOA’s lasting legacy includes our tribute to Dr. Phyllis Robertson’s 25th Anniversary season, and a Beethoven concerto performance by pianist Leonora Gehrich, who has collaborated with the QSO through almost 50 years of brilliant guest appearances.
We embrace the Creative Legacies of modern artists by commissioning their talents for two new world premieres. For the chorus, composer John Muehleisen has written a new composition in honor of Dr. Robertson’s 25 years of directing the Symphony Chorus. For the orchestra, composer James Stephenson has written a new holiday composition for the combined forces of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Symphony Chorus, and Quincy Area Youth Chorus.
Other highlights of the season include violinist Katie Wolfe’s debut performance with the QSO, featuring the sparkling Bruch Scottish Fantasy, and young Missouri composer Stephanie Berg’s attendance at our April performance of her recent composition Ravish & Mayhem. We also pay tribute to the Creative Legacies of visual artists by showcasing the work of artist Susan Chrysler White on our season print materials.
I thank our audiences for supporting past seasons and know that the 2014-2015 performances will continue to reward and excite your artistic appetites. Please join us for this tremendous season!
