Fri. March 22, 2024 | 11:45 AM |QJHS | Young People’s Concerts
The Symphony Orchestra performs “Philharmonia Fantastique,” their 53rd Young Peoples in-school concerts. This concerto for orchestra and animated film follows a magical Sprite on a musical journey through the instruments of the orchestra. By the film’s end, the families of the orchestra overcome their differences to demonstrate “unity from diversity” in a spectacular finale.
Two movements from Hector Berlioz’s “Symphonie Fantastique” provide additional drama to this exciting program.
The 11:45 am performance is open to the public. Children love experiencing live music in a setting just for them, but the 45-minute performances are enjoyable for grown-ups too!
Admission is free in fulfillment of the QSOA’s mission to bring fine symphonic orchestral and choral music to the region while encouraging young people to foster an interest in live music. This program is made possible by Encore! Symphony Volunteer Council and grants from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the Tracy Family Foundation, Quincy Wal-Mart Supercenter, Arts Quincy Arts Dollars, Quincy Sam’s Club, and the following funds through the Community Foundation: Samantha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund, Jayne & Leroy Boeckelman Fund for Young Musicians, Katherine Broemmel Endowment for the Arts, the Cory Didriksen Lovelace Fund, the Mary Ridder Cherny Fund and the Irwin Family Fund.
