The Quincy Symphony Chorus presents a hope-filled holiday mood at their “Joyful & Triumphant” Concert at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 in Quincy Junior High’s Morrison Theater.
This celebration promises the warmth and comfort of favorite Christmas music. Selections include the jubilant yet reflective “Gloria” by Francis Poulenc, “African Noel,” and “Christmas Fanfare.” The choristers are directed by Dr. Phyllis Robertson and accompanied by Becky White.
The Quincy Area Youth Chorus joins the adult choir for “Night of Silence,” a song to celebrate the glimmer of Christmas hope that pierces the darkness. Both adult and youth singers join with the audience for a sing-along of holiday favorites. Other collaborative works include “Jingle All the Way” medley and others featuring strings, winds, brass and harp.
The “Joyful & Triumphant” concert will uplift listeners and start the season full of hope. Special surprises for the audience are also planned!
Concert attendees are asked to bring non-perishable food to benefit the St. Francis Community Assistance Food Pantry. St. Francis offers a variety of caring services, including food distribution, to people in the Quincy area.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors. Children 18 and younger are free. Tickets are available at HyVee, County Market, Sturhahn Jewelers or the QSOA office, 1026 Maine St. Students, faculty, and staff from John Wood Community College, Quincy University, and Culver-Stockton College are admitted free with current school I.D. thanks to a ticketing plan with these schools. Masks are required inside the school and concert hall.
The Symphony Chorus includes singers from all walks of life in Quincy and the surrounding area. Rehearsing on Mondays evenings, the spring 2022 performances include “Sun, Moon & Stars” Pops Concert on March 5 and a joint performance of Dvořák’s “Te Deum” with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra and Youth Chorus at the Natural Wonders Concert on April 10. Area singers are invited to audition for the spring chorus by contacting Dr. Robertson at 217-228-2866.
