Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association Cancels Remaining Season Concerts

The Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association has cancelled all remaining concerts and educational activities through the end of its current season, due to the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The organization had hoped to reschedule the postponed concerts but as social distancing guidelines continue that became impractical. Cancelled concerts include the spring performances of the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra, Youth Chorus and the combined master performance of the Quincy Symphony Orchestra, Chorus and Youth Chorus.

“This is a sad time for our musicians, and we particularly feel for the senior students who participated in our youth ensembles and had prepared their final performances,” said QSOA General Manager Jane Polett.  “We plan to honor those young musicians but it cannot replace the joy of performing for family and friends after so much hard work.”

The QSOA was fortunate to complete five of the six ticketed concerts planned. Subscribers to the 2019-20 QSOA season are left with one unfulfilled concert ticket. Given the financial impact of the concert cancellations, the QSOA is asking patrons to consider donating back the remaining ticket value (and receive a tax-deductible acknowledgement).  Other options include receiving a “Bring a Friend” single ticket with their 2020-21 subscription or a refund for the missed event.  The QSOA will communicate these options directly with their subscribers.

Plans for the organization’s 73rd concert season are underway. “I encourage music lovers to purchase a season subscription early as this helps ensure we have funds to continue bringing the joy of music to our community,” Polett said.

The QSOA 15th Annual Raffle is still underway with a new drawing date of May 24.  The Grand Prize of $1,000 and additional prizes of a St. Louis Entertainment Package and Airfare will be held at that time. Raffle tickets are available from QSOA musicians, Board of Directors or Encore Volunteer Council members for $10 each.  Twelve raffle tickets may be purchased for $100.  Mail payments directly to QSOA, 200 N 8th St, Suite 102, Quincy, IL  62301 postmarked by May 15.  Mark “raffle” in the memo line.  For payments received by mail, the QSOA office staff will fill out tickets for entry into the drawing.

Information updates for the QSOA will be communicated via traditional media, at www.qsoa.org, and on social media.
