Quincy Area Youth Orchestra Spring Concert

Enter into a “World of Dance” as the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra presents their Spring Concert at 7 p.m., Sunday, March 11, at the Kroc Center, 405 Vermont Street. Under the direction of Dr. Rich Cangro, the orchestra will perform a repertoire of multicultural music selections composed for folk and classical dances with orchestra. Pieces include “Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss, “Dance of the Tumblers” from “The Snow Maiden” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, and “Danza Final” by composer Alberto Ginastera. The program will also feature collaborations with local dancers as they perform with the orchestra on a handful of selections.

Admission to the concert is free with donations highly encouraged.

The 2017-2018 QAYO consists of 45 talented musicians from across the tri-state area. Each of the members was selected for the orchestra based on auditions held in October. The student musicians come together weekly for rehearsals. Their first performance will be held on Feb. 11 in partner with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra. The QAYO is partially supported by the QSOA, Encore! Symphony Volunteer Council, a grant from the Community Foundation from the Samantha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund and the Tracy Family Foundation. Additional support is provided by the Jayne & Leroy Boeckelman Fund for Young Musicians, the Katherine Broemmel Endowment for the Arts and the Alan L. & Mary Ellen Stiegemeier Fund Charitable Fund and of the Community Foundation.
