Community Choir Invites New Singers

The Quincy Symphony Chorus (QSC) is looking for adults who love to sing and want to join a friendly and supportive group of music enthusiasts. The QSC is a talented community ensemble that welcomes experienced choral singers in all ranges. If you have sung in high school or college choruses or church choirs you most likely have acquired the experience needed. Members join for the love of music and to continue the joy of singing that they experienced in other choirs. New literature is learned for each concert that is both challenging and enjoyable for the participants and audience.

The choir performs a variety of musical genres, from classical to pop, sacred to patriotic. In the upcoming season, the chorus will perform a Christmas concert on December 2, a pops concert on March 2, 2024, and they will join the Quincy Symphony Orchestra and other local choirs for a joint performance on April 20, 2024. The QSC rehearses Monday evenings from September through April. Accepted singers may participate in the fall, winter, and/or spring sessions based on their availability.

“Singing in a choir is not only fun but also beneficial for your health and well-being,” said QSC Conductor Dr. Phyllis Robertson. “It can improve your breathing, posture, mood, memory, and social skills. Plus, you get to meet new friends and share your love of music.”

QSC auditions will be held on Sept. 5 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Salem Church, 9th & State streets. Please call 217-222-2856 x11 to reserve an audition time.

Prospective members should prepare a song they enjoy singing such as a Christmas carol or folk song and bring music to the audition. Hymnals are available at Salem if auditioners want to sing a hymn. Dr. Robertson will guide each singer through some scales to check range and explain what is expected of chorus members.  Enter on the State Street side of the church using the sidewalk near the digital sign to access the red double doors. Auditions may also be scheduled by appointment. To learn more about the choir visit www.qsoa.org.

Quincy Symphony Chorus is a nonprofit organization that aims to enrich the lives of participants and the community through music. Founded in 1972, the QSC includes singers from all ages and stages of life. There is no fee to join; a concert uniform is required.
