Youth Orchestra to Perform with Dancers

The Quincy Area Youth Orchestra will present their spring concert, Music in Spectacular Motion, at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 13 at the Kroc Center, 405 Vermont St. The orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Richard M. Cangro, will perform a variety of works from master composers. Pieces include the overture to “The Impresario” by Mozart, “Bacchanale” from Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Saëns, and other works, including “Stars and Stripes Forever” by John Phillips Sousa.

Dancers from Vancil Studio Performing Art Center’s competition team will join the orchestra for a performance of “Emperor’s Waltz” by Johann Strauss.

The 2016 QAYO consists of 45 talented musicians from across the tristate area. Each of the members was invited to join the orchestra based on an audition held in October. The student musicians rehearse together weekly. Their first performance was Feb. 14 with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra.

Admission to the concert is free with donations encouraged.  The QAYO is partially supported by the QSOA, Encore! Symphony Volunteer Council, the Tracy Family Foundation, the Martha McCrory Foundation, the Illinois Arts Council Agency, and the Samantha Otte Youth Opportunity Fund, the Alan L. & Mary Ellen Stiegemeier Fund, the Jayne & Leroy Boeckelman Fund for Young Musicians and the Katherine Broemmel Endowment for the Arts of the Community Foundation.
