Camphouse Premiere Composition – “BRILLIANCE”
Commissioned for the Quincy Area Youth Orchestra
Dvorak “American Suite”, Op. 98b
Dvorak Symphony No. 8
The world premiere of “Brilliance” reflects craftsmen laboring over newly mined rough stones, carefully shaping them to a brilliant sparkle. Composer William Camphouse re-purposes the “cherished melody” from Vivaldi's “Spring” movement from the “Four Seasons” into a new setting with contemporary energy. Both orchestras, youth and adults, will premiere this new work side-by-side under the direction of QAYO conductor, Dr. Richard Cangro. In another first, the Quincy Symphony will perform Dvořák’s “American Suite” for the first time. The colorful stylings and energy are similar to those found in the composer's “New World Symphony.” The concert concludes with Dvořák’s 8th symphony, a “cherished melody” chosen for the season by the QSO musicians. As a guest conductor in 2005, Briney selected this beloved work as part of the program, which turned out to be his inaugural concert and a prelude to many wonderful seasons at the helm of the orchestra.
