Youth Chorus To Hold Auditions

Auditions for the Quincy Area Youth Chorus Concert Choir and Kinderchor will be held Saturday, August 1, beginning at 10 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 333 S. 36th Street in Quincy.

An educational outreach program, QAYC provides youth with a choral music experience where levels of artistic growth are fostered in each student. Our purpose is to nurture the appreciation of choral art and the shared appreciation of creating music for young singers. The groups supplement the music training students receive in school or church. QAYC enhances both the performer and the audience through sacred and secular choral music.

Founded in 1995, QAYC is a performing organization within the Quincy Symphony Orchestra Association.  The ensembles perform concerts in October and April, and often sing combined works with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra.

QAYC includes girls and boys with unchanged voices, and consists of two performing groups.  The Kinderchor, grades 3-6, is directed by Jessi Sparks.  The Concert Choir, grades 7-12, is directed by Paul Shelor.  Rehearsals are held either on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons.

Young singers from a 75-mile radius of Quincy are invited to audition for QAYC.  Auditioning children should prepare a song they enjoy singing.  Please call the Quincy Symphony office, 217-222-2856, to sign up for an audition time. Additional information is available at www.qsoa.org.
